Hey all. I just got the book today and I think it's going to help me a ton. I also plan to take lessons in the near future. But what I was wondering is, are there any sets of puzzles that you can use this method on to find the correct move. Well, I know I could with any position, but I mean something that will tell me if I analyzed it correctly. Thanks for any help.

hey folks! I promised some of my students to publish a chart for the process of decision making in chess, here it is: https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B-lghaCOP6iIMmhUb256bDJYOHM The chart is incorporated in the new guidebook I'm writing, specially designed to support my students in their study programs, I hope you'll like it! The guidebook is now available for pre-order at 20% off from my coach page, where you can find more details: http://www.chess.com/coach/philip-ochman Pre- ordering the book, you will immediately receive the prototype version, not including all the examples and extra material the final Christmas edition will include (working on it this very moment!). Once the final version is out at Christmas (~100 pages), you will automatically receive it by email. I'm also currently working on a new video lectures series, hoping to finish everything before Christmas! -Philip

And if sometime, she were to die, I'd trail after her, in her grave, or in the streets of hell. I'd break the heavens, for her sake, and upon god's heart I'd shout: You monster, give her back!
Hi folks! My new book is already available, and I wanted to share a free 29 pages sample with you. It's available to download FREE here! If you liked it, help me pay for my girfriend's new shoes () by downloading the full version here, or you can order it on my coach profile. Enjoy! -Philip

Hello friends! Have you ever played against an opponent that seemed to always have a good attack? If you play with a correct plan, designed to answer the requirements of the position, you will easily deal with any attack, especially a badly designed one played by an opponent who wants to win immediately no matter what! You can watch a free recording of a 17 minutes instructive introduction lesson I had with one of my online students exactly about this subject here. -Philip
Im not a very good player, but I just checkmated an opponent in live chess rated 200 elo higher than me in only 22 moves, because he was content with pawn pushing. How does somebody rated 1485 not understand the concept of "develop your pieces"!?!? And though the pawn pushing was more extensive in my game than other games hes played, the "pawn push mentality" seems to be heavy in all his games. Yet im his only loss in the last 10!?!? Do people really struggle with this strategy or am I justified in being totally bewildered by this?

"You want words for the moments you live to share and not to only take the emotion of love she gave you with that kiss." I try to write because I still need you not to love me, but to know what I lived on the throne of our regretted love. I remember how I almost jumped into the lake for you, in the park, but I've grown a lot since that day, I've stopped unfolding my arms for you as it is what you want of me. I've seen dragons of gold in your wavy waterfal, and I have touched the dragons with every kiss I planted on your red red lips on your neck, back, or everywhere else my lips wandered in our love's passionate tornado. I was so used of kissing you, that when you stopped I felt the futillity of my lips as no one ever did. I want the world to love you more and I want you to hate me so I could get rid of this wonderful obsession of you. Tell me love: Who's gonna watch you now in amazement, when you sleep?
"Kiss her, and you'll have immortality." they say to me, in a language of their own. The giants, they know you. Having the power to move worlds, you've completly obliterated mine. Just a breath of yours, on my lips, was enough for the biggest mountain to flutter like a leaf in an impossible tornado. Poetry of the brave, unafraid to still love you I create new worlds of sins for you to destroy just as you did with my Sodoma and Gomora. I prefer you ruthless and adorable. "She isn't the Juliet you should be looking for." the world says, but you know me, I never cared much about the world. The Tailor of Love showed me how to sew the holes I had. But I think that you cared. You used to chain my heart to yours when we were alone. You used to make me immortal a thousand times a day. And today... Today, You say that there are others, that deserve me, and that you don't, but there isn't one, I love more, there isn't one I'd risk my life for in the bet of life. It's late, I guess I have to say good night.

I think I played very well in the first 10 moves, then after 11. Nh4 which I didn't expect, I lost my mind and destroyed my position.
In the following game white has just played Bd6 and black responded with Re8. What is the next (and the very thematic) move for white here?

There are 3 styles of playing in the following position- the "algorithm programmer", the "WWE wrestler", and the "Yokozuna". The first two win- the programmer successfully finishes his algorithm quickly and goes home to his loving young and caring wife, no bruises or cuts whatsoever. The wrestler wins his championship belt after a long and exhausting theatrical- artificial fight, to go home all bruised and broken. Now, the "Yokozuna" loses the fight. Pushing the opponent all over the ring only led to tripping and falling- and the battle is lost. He returns home humiliated, having lost to an opponent smaller than him in size by half. Which one is you?

Hey guys! Back to work after a short break, I would like to share the following position with you. As always, to find the correct move provide full analysis (opponent's threats, positional evaluation, tactical evaluation). Notice that you should first decide what's the nature of the position (tactical or strategic), and you do that by looking for existing tactical motifs in the position (checks, captures, pressure, tension) to know what to concentrate on- tactics or strategy. If it's strategic- positional evaluation should be most important. If it's tactical, tactical evaluation is more important (tactical motifs for both sides), while positional evaluation will play a major role at evaluating variations, by looking at the situation at the quescence point. This is the stage where the variation is over, meaning both sides don't have tactical motifs that are usefull for them.

Hello chess friends! I started teaching a new chess course- "tactics, fireworks, fun and entertainment", and with it a new series of forum posts in that spirit. These positions were carefully selected, illustrating the most instructive, most powerful and sharpest moves ever played in chess history. So, enjoy solving the following position, taken from a real game between two famous GM's- Yudasin and Kramnik, 1994:

I thought I'd share this with you all. This opening is absolutely horrible if your opponent has any time whatsoever to think, but for the 1 min, 3 minute, 5 minute games, it is a great deal fun to play! It is a form of Scandenavian that throws a few pawns away for early queenside development and diagonal attack on the kingside. I often enjoy playing this as opponents tend to play blunder after blunder (I know this is bad strategy, but it is fun when you are bored). I think it was Alekhine I saw play this, I can't find any other games from anyone that follow suit! Here is one of my recent ones:

Hey! The following part of a game is taken from one of my latest games, far from a masterpiece, however very instructive. The reason I call it instructive is the way it shows a typical response by an expert player (my opponent, 2144) to a potential threat. Yes, not only you are lazy, sometimes we all are! still, you must look at your opponent's potential threats (tactical motifs- checks, captures, pressure and tension) very deeply, and analyze the variations until the point of quescence (where there are no longer tactical motifs for either side), simply trusting that your opponent did the same when he reached the 3rd stage of analysis, which is tactical evaluation of the position. There, one looks for tactics that can favor him better then positional play. I think the game shows a very good example of the said above. My question to you about this game- look at move 15 for both sides, one time for white and the other time for black, and provide full analysis (threats analysis, positional evaluation, tactical evaluation) to try and decide whether what was played is indeed best or maybe you can come up with something better. Positions for analysis:
I thought I'd share this. It's the first live game that I have played for some time (a couple of weeks I think). I find it an interesting game as this one blunder followed by and inaccuracy (or another blunder) allowed for some real tactical plays for me. Enjoy

Hi guys! I present you today's position, and as always, provide full evaluation (threats, positional, tactical) and analyze the resulting requirements of the position to find plans and suggested moves, eventually choosing the best one (either the one who distinguishly answers more requirements then the rest, or if it's tied use the concept of urgency in chess- which moves we want to play can be prevented by our opponent unless we play them right away).
