Decided to post here as it seems the discussion is far more mature than in other clubs I'm around 1500 rated in USCF regular currently, which is decent as my state is big on their regionally based rating system but not so much on national or international rating... that being said, maintaining it is hard, especially as severely underrated players are joining Open sections and trouncing my rating by playing for a draw. For the last 5ish years I've started most of my games with c4 with White and c5 with Black (assuming they don't play d4 as White), but what I've noticed is that my opponents will simply copy my moves and go into the Ultra-Symmetrical line, and this serves them well even if they have no idea what the opening theory actually is.  That being said, I'm looking for some new opening lines to explore just so that I can start expanding my playbook a bit more; preferably something that's aggressive and has good potential for early positional advantages, or just confuse my more higher rated opponents if they aren't familiar with how to respond. Mostly interested in how experts and masters think but open to any and all feedback!

how often after a uscf rated event in chess.com gets uscf rated?
I was playing a G45/D5 tournament. My game lasted over 1 hour and the next round would begin in 20 minutes. The TD came up to my board and put 5 minutes on both mine and my opponent's clocks. I had an advantage in that position, but I was pressured about time so I played quickly. I blundered and lost the game. I ended up getting 4/5 in that tournament. Was the TD allowed to shorten the time on our clocks, considering neither of us made illegal moves or violated a rule? I understand our game was going overtime, but I don't see a rule in the rulebook that allows this. USCF rules were followed in the tournament.
As posted in the club News, Saturday events are here (at 11 Pacific, 2 Eastern), at least for a little while. The first event, will be a 3|3 but we would like to get some input on what time controls people would like to see. I know there have been topics in the past about it, but I would like to gather suggestions here in this topic. It is very likely we will have a rotating schedule, giving room for a few different time controls, though if there is a consensus that one specific time control is best, then we can do that instead There are some limitations: Base time control has to be at least 3 minutes Base time plus increment has to be at least 5 and at most 29 So, let us know what you think.

Hi, Does Lichess have online USCF rated tournaments? if not, would not be nice to have it in three major platforms? Just a reminder, ICC is a paid platform. Thanks
I'm referring to that latest ad on the chess.com home page. What's this thing about a clock that never hits zero? I clicked on the ad, and found only a few fancy-looking chess clocks for sale. They look like pretty ordinary clocks to me. Can somebody enlighten me about this? Am I missing out on some groundbreaking chess clock technology? Or did I just get trolled by the latest cute chess.com marketing gimmick?

I received some mail and now an email supposedly from uscf asking to call  1-877-488-3839 for member verification. This number doesn't appear to be associated with uscf is this illegitimate?

Hi, I seem to remember reading somewhere that there are two(?) categories for Online USCF Ratings...is this true? And if so, then what are they? (Rapid, Blitz, etc.) I've tried asking multiple Administrators but no reply has been forthcoming, so I'm hoping one of my felluw US Chess people can help answer this...

Hello everyone this is fellow american brayan amaya who has become a National Master awaiting verification in july but I still have an interesting question about the titles that come after achieving NM which is how do you exactly become a LM? I've looked at old forums and answers which state that you have to achieve 5 norms or hold 300 games above a 2200 rating which honestly sounds like pure insanity that people forget they achieve. Also for instance I have now gotten 3 "M" norms which USCF congratulated me for earning stating they are life master norms but does this mean that when I get 5 I become a Life Master? fill me in behind this title and its weirdness

Hello! Sorry to disturb but I got an open tournament tomorrow and I really need tips on how to stay focused during a game since I often find my mind drifting off after opening and middle game. I need ways to keep my mind focused on the game and keep myself keep thinking about moves even if it's not my move.

Hello, I am aware that ratings are updated on the 1st of each month but if I completed an online tournament not too long ago, is there a way where I am able to check the results of that tournament on uscf?

Hello Chess.com players! I was just wondering how to advance leagues. I advanced from Wood Division to Stone Division. I was thinking it was because of my puzzles, games, or tournaments. I am not sure why I advanced. Can someone please explain? Thanks, Manasvi
Hey everyone! This afternoon I received an email from the US Chess Federation email address saying that I had been shortlisted for the internship program at US Chess, and that my “application stood out among an overwhelming number of impressive candidates.” The only thing is, I never submitted an application! I’ve received a handful of other emails from that address in the past, so I doubt that it’s pure spam. Has this happened to anyone else?

I was typing in "chess.com" in the URL and I mis clicked "chess.co" in the URL. The website then says that a virus has been detected. I immediately closed the tab, but do additional measures need to be taken?

I've been thinking of entering a tournament to see how good, or bad, I really am. I don't play much OTB so I am looking forward to the experience, although a little trepidatious. I believe I have to make notation, which I've never done before, though I'm aware of how to do it. I just can't image it with a board with no A-H or 1-8 on it! For those players who are tournament savvy, what are some of the things you wish you had known before your first, or what advise can you offer someone who is looking to do their first? BTW, I usually play either 10 minute rapid or 3 day correspondence games currently. I have no interest in blitz or anything like that.

I tried checking my USCF profile and it told me that my data could be leaked, is anyone else having this problem?
