"How does Fischer's idea of draws counting as 0s in the championship sound to them?"

what is the difference if draw is counted as 0 or 1/2? It would be 2-1 for Carlsen and not 5,5-4,5. Why does it matter?

epoqueepique

There would be no advantage in playing for a draw, such as in this WCC reaching 6 points for a win.

slaca

Ok, got it, thx. So first 6 win to be a champ. Maybe they would play 30 games :) I like the idea.

epoqueepique

right :-)

poor question... and 5 who is unable to evaluate it properly liked...

answer: it wouldn't make diference, the result now would be the same, 1 point ahead for Carlsen, it's a match for 2 players facing each other, not a tourney with many...

PardalsemCasa, those are the rules of WCC this year :

The Match is played over a maximum of twelve games and the winner of the match shall be the first player to score 6.5 points or more. If the scores are level after 12 games, 4 tie-break are played.

The winner has to reach 6 points (6,5 here because draws count for o,5). If draws were counted O, rules would be different, there would be no maximum number of games. The first player to reach 6 would have to play 6 wins. Draws would not count, so players would not play for draws.

ok but it would still be 12 games in the match... they wouldn't agree till one reach 6 or 7 points with draws counting zero... it could be endless... but thnx... so maybe the question makes some sense... I still don't like it, but I take back what I said...

Belgium_Butterfly

Well I will ask Vishy...why don't you take a bit of risk and play for win..? Since there are only couple of games left seems likely that Carlsen would retain his title.
