Marijuana makes you lazy, but may improve your ELO

Creativity is a side effect and this may make some people come up with good moves.

Do you agree or what?

You mean 'inb4dalõc'?

Nah bro they ain't gonna lock it down

Interesting take on the subject @DeidreSkye. When playing online I make a conscious effort not to look at the rating of my opponent, easy to do with short time control.

I Have to strongly disagree with you Gentlemen on this subject.  Chess is a battle of the minds and, of course, the most prepared mind will be victorious.  Even the basics of chess require mental memory and effort to retain, let alone excel in.  Pot in general is the defining backlash against all things in chess that be good. It makes you tired, lethargic, and unable to grasp complicated problems and concepts.  Those that will counter me with "It helps me focus and concentrate", must realize that it is called tunnel vision for a reason and it's cartoons that only hold your attention.  I believe that cartoons have serious lessons in them to be learned, but filling in the Grand Canyon with a shovel, will not stop your opponents army from capturing you.  Add that with the fact that many of our chess members are Veterans and you open wide the doors of paranoia.  Your opponents advance could trigger a horrific flashback to the time that you lived your life without drugs, and the impending PTSD, would no doubt force your retirement of your King and Army all awhile your being confused as to why Willey can never catch that really fast bird.  Of course this will lead you to depression, anxiety, and reclusion, well, wait a minute{  That's why you started getting high in the first place, remember?

Thought provoking contribution. Thank You.

WEED can definitely help the focus if that is what you want it for.  WEED is also a chill/relaxer...everything is cooool....super chill.   WEED also enhances the paranoid.

WEED also makes one want to eat everything in the fridge.  I coined it as the "munchy-itus syndrome" years ago.

get it??  Got the munchies??   So, during a chess match, I'd eventually lose my focus once the high wears down as well as get real hungry.

I would like to add a couple shouts out:  Thank you
Godsoriginalfool for your gracious compliment to my humor intended rambling.  Thank you DeirdreSkye for your intense tirade on my humorously intended  sarcastic rambling.  It is people like you who so often remind me that a job half done is not a job done at all.  I accept full responsibility and apologize to all up front.  In my haste to be seemingly clever, and with thus knowledge of the intelligence that comes with those that play chess on a site like this, I failed to perceive that there may actually, truly, be stoned members who would need proper warning to the fact that this verbiage is indeed humor, sarcasm, wit and irony, and I shall thusly {sic} post as such in the future.

Upon saying this...have you ever gotten high and played chess?

Godsoriginalfool

I would lite to reiterate a point in the OP, that the "creativity" aspect of the chemical THC, which is what gets one "high", has a scientifically verified effect of increasing creativity. If anything, this could make a game of chess more aestheticly pleasing.

That's cool but I am not on THC, in fact habe not touched the stuff in a while, I am only wanting to discuss the probable benefits.

PICKYOURPOCKET

ONLY way to know is to try....especially if you are wanting to discuss the probable benefits....probable will turn into FACT!

Thank you guys this has been a blast and I am pleased to see that not only in chess but in life the people I play chess with are respectful, professional, educated, and have a sense of humor.  Yes, I have both been high and played chess.  I would like to be able to tell you how that went, but due to all the THC  I injected my memory is not what it used to be.  A documented fact that occurs when you ingest pounds of marijuana over long periods of time.  I wish I could remember, why just yesterday I snorted seven grams of pure green pearl from Utah, at least I think it was yesterday. LOL.

In truth I did seem to have a "deeper" level of concentration, but my competitors were not even close to the standards of such on this site.  My moves were erratic, and I tended to strand many of my men. Oh and I always spilled potato chips all over the board from the munchies.  Other than sex, the only thing I seemed to do better stoned was eat. This is an accurate assessment of how I fared doing things stoned.  So  I feel that no pot does not help your chess game,  That is my honest opinion.

Godsoriginalfool

Big K I appreciate your candor and your sense of humor. At least your men were able to share the potato chips :-)

If I created a computer program to suggest me the most random moves, I'd probably make the best move 1/100 times. So would you tell me to use a randomizer computer program because I "may" make the best move? Same goes with this, there's a difference between "may" and "will".
