It's late as I'm writing this, but just wanted to get this out ahead of time since I've reorganized the tentative schedule for the coming year of 2025! There's a lot of information packed below so do read it if you're interested in how things will go this year, I promise it's worth your time (even if there's large blocks of scary paragraphs)! First on the agenda: so far, the plan is to have Platinum Variant arenas on (in Month/Day form) 3/28, 6/27, 9/26, and 12/26, with each arena representing a different quarter of the year. There's talk of making a change to trimesters instead, but so far this system should work and make sure the best variants are properly represented. Also: prizes might make an appearance?? 💎 Secondly, I've been looking at the feedback form responses, and we'll definitely try out some new stuff this year! I may start reaching out to some of y'all who provided usernames so the CGA team can get some more insights! If you're reading this before the new year, the form will still be open until then so definitely fill it out if you're interested. We're particularly concerned with the effectiveness of Golden Variant in helping variants in the long-term and not just over the course of a week or so. Next, there's been concern about the sudden acceptance of 3 NCVs in the past month or so that has queued all of them up for an All Week arena appearance. To make it so that we're not going to just have 3 out of the 5 slots in January be filled with All Week arenas in a row, I've spread them out 3 weeks apart from each other in the order that they were accepted. This is not the most ideal solution, but hopefully this will be to the benefit of all of them! (Please submit more WoFs it takes us forever to test NCVs 😢) Just to feature something more prominently, I'd also like to take this moment to congratulate NCV Tester @BN1208 on being promoted to CGA! Variants World has been around for a while. After its release in February 2024 (I was still learning how to make variants then), we have seen some updates, such as a posts list option, and the addition of some 2023 submissions. VW still has a lot in store and the UI can be improved by much. So, the same way I start all my forums, here is my Variants World Suggestion 1. Sort By: Open VW and search my name. The top has an ID of 2, each going in ascending order. Now, search "accepted." The top ones are Phalanx and Triune Wasp, both of which are from 2023 and have submissions that we currently don't care about (that was not meant to offend anyone). Assume you're looking for a WoF submission from around September 2024 to recall the name. You can either 1) Scroll down until you find it, 2) Search "accepted" and scroll, or 3) Go through VVF and find it. How inconvenient, right? This nuisance can be fixed by adding the Sort option, allowing users to sort through which month they want to search.  Now assume you're just browsing accepted variants. I can guarantee you will find the declined variant "Fairy Placement!" which brings me to the next thing the Sort feature can do. Right now, searching "accepted" goes through everything on a submission's page: The title, the creator, the description, the verdict message, and comments. All of these are useful to search for, such as when trying to find a specific creator, trend/name, or decline reason. But seeing all of it at once seems redundant, especially when some people don't know how to use the "reply" feature (for example: search up my name and click on LobotomyDynamix. The only reason that submission shows up is because someone replied to my comment by typing out my name). The Sort feature can also filter what your search searches through. (Example: Sort it to only show submissions that have "shuffling" in the decline message.) In addition, the Sort feature can also sort through or sort out the variant review status, being Under Review, Accepted, Declined, Auto-Declined, Self-Declined, Bugged, and Pending Reply. Did you think I would stop being lazy and make a second suggestion? There's a reason why the title isn't plural.

I truly appreciate the interest and enthusiasm shown by all those who wanted to participate. Unfortunately, I do not have enough time to host this tournament, and therefore, it is cancelled. Even in the summer holidays, I still have a lot of work to do. I hope to host this tournament again when I have more time. Thank you for your understanding, and I apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Greetings!There is still many bugs in either playing variants on chess.com or Variants World.Rather than seeing lot of forum about bugs,i thought there might be a post only for reporting bugs. Here,you can putting bugs and suggestions,and i wish CGAs will see it and feedback with them.Have a good time playing variant chess with extra funny things and no bugs!

Pushing Pawns: Berolina and regular pawn can move one way and capture the other. What if they could always move and they would push the other pieces diagonally backwards or straight backwards respectively when they could not capture. If there is another piece or a brick behind it does not work. If there is the edge of the board or a void square then then piece dies when it moves there. It does not work with 2 space moves from the home rank or torpedo. I think this could be a really cool variant on similar lines to sideways pawns and torpedo.

Shogi-Kin:move as a king,but can't backwards diagonally.This helps a Giveaway Hill when the creator puts more kings but always makes a bug(any kings,not only royals can win by KoTH,i don't know whether it's a bug or not) Xiangqi-Cannon: move as a rook and captures 1 piece behind another piece.This allows the grasshopper can move faster. Kint-knight: a Kint-knight moves as a knight and captures as a king.This allows the knight more strategic and powerful.(needs a new name!) Deserter: a pawn moves and captures backward,promotes at your opponent's promotion line.Not very useful,but it might be fun. Mirror: combines wazir and camel.(like a bishop who changes it's colour.) Xiangqi-soldier: moves and captures forward only.When moved into half of the board,the Xiangqi-soldier can move sideways.Can't promote. Butterfly: combines Xiangqi-Cannon and ferz.(rook+grasshopper when capture+king.) Shogi-zhongren: a pawn moves and captures either forward or backward,but cannot move or capture diagonally.This allows less draw in a game.

Bug: When it submit a variant on VW, this happens: See the "Unknow error" at the bottom? It's not allowing me to submit. Anyone have the same issue?

The end of the year is near, and we at the Custom Variants club are celebrating with a weeklong holiday-themed Wheel of Fortune arena (which can be found in the arena tab) starting on December 22nd at 0 UTC! ⛄🎉 To make this extra special, we will be giving out 1-month diamond memberships to the top 3 finishers in the arena!(To prevent abuse, accounts must have been made before December 13th in order to be eligible for a prize) As some of you may have already guessed from discussions on the server, this year, we will be featuring WoF: Treehouse Battle by @chye3mc, one of our most talented variant creators in this club who has graciously allowed us to use his variant for this event! This is a modified version of the variant 'New Years Nonsense 2023' by @qilp. I've repurposed the original 2023 New Year's Nonsense chess variant for 2025. The only change is replacing the '3' from 2023 with a '5' for 2025. It was unfortunate that there wasn't a New Year's Nonsense tournament in 2024, so I'm hoping @ChessMasterGS will consider using this variant for next year.
