I think it's not so different breaking 500 elo to 1500 to 2500. Everyone here is just asking the same type of question again and again and again and I think it's not that complicated. The game is always the same and it always follows the same principles, you know, things like development, tactics, etc, and this principles such as tactics are further developed into concepts everyone has seen already, like forks, skewers, and so on. When it comes to tactics you only have to train your brain to spot a possible combination, calculate and get an advatageous position. It's that simple. Chess training is like 80% tactics. Now, when it comes to opening theory, give it small time. Don't play 4 different openings per color, learn a few but strongly. About learning openings is not just knowing the order moves, it's about knowing your strenghts, your weaknesses, your plans and ideas, etc. My advice, learn any for white and 3 for black, 1 against e4, another one against d4/c4 and one against anything else. And this goes especially against low rated players, don't go sharp. Play solid. Don't play the sicilian because it has too much theory you need to memorize to end up in a decent position. Dedicate more of your study to endgames. I personally hate pawn endgame puzzles because they are hard, they make you calculate a lot and since I'm mainly a blitz player I really need to excercise that with time pressure. Some other comments I got: - If you are suffering from time pressure, play with increment. - Study games from great chess players. Understand what drives them, what's their reasoning, etc. Many of them made new opening theory too so that's a bonus. - At least from my experience, rating fluctuation is pretty normal. You go up, visit a new rating objective, go down, and slowly make your way back up. It's been like that for me many times, even know I'm back to 2300 after 18 months of not reaching it. I've had my inactivity periods as well, but you get the point. - If you are tilting, STOP PLAYING. It is that simple. Tilt is always under your control, emotional. If you are tilted, close chess.com, go grab water, take some air, do some chores but don't think about the losses. Come back tomorrow, check out your mistakes and keep moving forward. - Understand your playing. Are you tactical? Positional? Do you like long slow games or aggressive sharp games? Do you like taking risks or you prefer being always balanced? Do you prefer closed or open positions? Do you use the knight or bishop better? What pawn structures are you familiar with? Etc. Know what you do, your weaknesses in the position and your advantages. This helps not only for openings but for the mind game in general. Make chess enjoyable for you. I think that's all. Excuse my bad english. To my experience there's only one way to reach any elo goal, it's to keep playing, reviewing your mistakes, learning the patterns on opening theory, tactics and endgames and if you understand the whys of your moves you'll get better. Don't move for moving, have an intention. Reason your moves.

Any suggestions for breaking 1555 and reaching 1999
Greetings Improvers - To improve we should first play many games to gain experience. But its of no use if we do not review our games and learn what we did right and won or what we did wrong and lost. But many of us are not diamond members and thus are limited to only 1 review per day . So I have come up with a plan to make a club where every one can get free Reviews. SO don't forget to join the ultimate club of friends - Review For Free 🥰🥰
I struggle getting better at blitz and bullet my ratings are very different with being 740 in blitz and 500 in bullet but 960 in rapid

Hey guys, everyone says they want to gain Elo. I want to tell you that the best way to do this is to play games on chess.com. Even if you lose, it's okay! Game review on chess.com and find your mistakes/blunders. Just keep in mind those things and improve your game. I also don't win all my games but always play and improve. I used to be around 600 ELO but played many games, learned a lot of things on the way by game reviewing, and got to about 1200 ELO. THE SAME THING CAN HAPPEN TO YOU! You can share your games with me and we can review That way, I will learn some common mistakes that I have not learned as well as everyone else.  Another way to improve is to read chess books. Though I am not a fan of it either, it helps improve my strategies and tactics. Last but not least, you can complete courses and learn something. Though, you should learn a few chess openings and always play those openings. That way, if your opponent makes a mistake, you can quickly catch that and punish your opponent. I recommend learning an opening you like for white and black and common openings to MAYBE punish your opponent.
Im bored and saw this being done so I shall do it too nyeh heh heh

I literally got 900 ELO! I know most of you are way past that but for me, that's a huge milestone.

Anybody have recommendations for books about chess? What's the very best chess book you've read, the one that helped you the most or the one you most enjoyed? I'd ask that people only recommend books they have read themselves, not just something you heard was good. If you can elaborate on why you think it's a good recommendation, that is helpful as well.

I still see myself as a beginner in the vast world of chess. But I'm aiming high, my goal is to hit at least a 2200 Elo by next year. It’s not just about the rating; it’s about the grind, the learning, and the thrill of seeing those “checkmate” moments come alive. So, here I am, diving into opening theories, endgames, grinding tactics puzzles, and reviewing games like my life depends on it. Join me on this journey; let’s discuss, strategize, and push each other to new heights! Who knows, maybe one day, I’ll look back at this post from the other side of 2200. Let’s make it happen! ♟️🔥

EVERYONE IS JUST ASKING HOW TO BREAK 1200 ELO FIRSTLY STOP ASKING THIS QUESTION AND THINK WHAT IS THE RIGHT APPROACH .FOCUS ON YOUR TACTICS MORE .ANALYS YOUR OWN GAMES AND CHECK WHERE YOU ARE GOIG WRONG.IMPROVE YOUR OPENING KNOWLEDGE AND INSTEAD OF MEMORISING THE POSITION TRY TO UNDERSTAND THE REASON BEHIND THE MOVES .LEARN BASIC ENDGAMES .IMP: STOP PLAYING BULLETS IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT YOUR IMPROVEMENT, PLAY LONG TIME CONTROLS FOLLOW THESE THINGS CONSISTANTLY  FOR ATLEAST ONE AND HALF MONTH AND CHECK WHY YOU WONT IMPROVE YOUR RATING.YOU MAY THINK WHO AM I . IAM CHESSCOM OFFICAL STREAMER . AND RECENTLY REACHED 2066 ELO IN RAPID .

Three times now I've gotten to 1190 odd, been one game away from getting to 1200 and all of a sudden I tilt. What is going on!? Why does this happen every time I reach a milestone like this?

I was introduced to chess when i was 11 years old. I only learned how to play and played few games. But later never got much chance to play or learn. After many years, i played chess only after joining Chess.com in 2023. Previously i used to quit as soon as i lost my Queen, but after playing on Chess.com many things changed, I continued to play even after loosing queen and won few games without queen, i learned about Castling, tactics and few other things here. I enjoy learning through practice than studying so i preferred playing games and solving puzzles more. I don't know about the names of openings that i play, In my games i can only think of what my opponents next step would be, i never thought beyond that. Out of impulse i make my moves very quickly i never take time, i want to change that. In Rapid my highest rating is 922, Most of the time it's in range of 600 - 800. I want to master this game and cross 1000, 1500 , 2000 etc step by step. Please suggest me how i can achieve this.
