Why do english was chosen as the international language?

Doesn’t any of you see? Emojis are the new true international language. 😉😀👍😎🫵
Then I'm slowly becoming illiterate. I stop reading when emojis are used as substitutes for words.

@idilis #19 yes it's because we got independence on that day which is a very joyfull day and we celebrate it in every year
Survivor bias-- whichever language is a default would result in the same question. My guess is that after WW2 much of the world economy was devastated and over 50% of world GWP was from the US so a generation grew up wanting a piece of that pie and so studied English. A second guess is that families living in oppressive countries frequently look for a place to run if it gets worse. For much of the last century that safe harbor has been the US. So many well off families want their children to learn English and even study in the US. One can also ask reasonable what are the advantages or disadvantages of it or some other language. In that direction English has a large vocabulary and simple grammar. It is very easy to speak and understand at the level required for international business. (It is also very hard to write well since a simple grammar means writing is like playing tennis without a net.) Those are my guesses -Bill
