Hey guys! Carlsen finished 1st in Tata Steel! There were some exciting games this year, including some new faces. I think that was why I enjoyed looking at the games so much.

But, there were a lot of Top GMs that didn't participate, such as: Caruana, Wesley, Nakamura, Karjakin, Aronian. The new players that played this year were: Vidit, Shankland, Rapport, Duda, Fedoseev, Radjabov, and Van Foreest.

 Final standings Above

Speaking of Vidit, let's look at some of his games with some commentary first. He played very well this tournament, finishing in 6th place, being the second to last lowest rated. He got 7/13.

There wasn't a lot to comment on the 2nd game, because Vidit and Carlsen were both playing correctly in the endgame. Anyway, Vidit did really good this tournament, he played very interestingly.

Another Person that surprised me with his play was Shankland. He was paired up against Nepo and crushed him. Nepo also had a very nice tournament, starting with 2.5/3 and finishing with 7.5/13.

Before the 11th round, Giri and Magnus were tied with 7.5/11. Giri played with Radjabov and drew, while Magnus beat Duda in a Tiring 100 move game. Giri had 8/12 afterwards, being 1 point above everybody else, while Magnus had 8.5/12. All Magnus needed was a draw in the last game vs Giri to secure his title once again.

Kramnik finished with 4.5/13, not in his best shape. But in his days, he was one of the best chess players. Anand, however, did amazing! He got 7.5/13, he beat Kramnik and Mamedyarov, he only lost to Carlsen. Mamedyarov did very bad, he had a bad tournament, sadly. But everyone has them, he will gain his rating back in the next tournament.

Nepo is in top 10! He is progressing quickly. Stars like Wesley, Naka, Kramnik, Karjakin are out of top 10.. Mamedyarov is below 2800 after that bad tournament. Magnus on the way to 2850 and possibly 2900! Ding and Caruana are keeping themselves above 2800 and slowly improving their rating. I hope Giri crosses 2800, that would be really cool! He is a few points away.

I enjoyed watching Tata Steel, a lot of new players did very well. Next year, another face will be in the Master section too, Kovalev Vladislav!

I hope you guys enjoyed this, if you did feel free to comment below! Thanks!
