in response to all of the cheaters i have created the atomic FBI. It's a private club that investigates atomic suspects and reportss them to admins. If you want to either join FBI or make a case agenst another player feel free to do so here or in DM's with me

Hey, I wanted to levy a slight cheating accusation against my opponent (game shown below). I haven't looked at his history, but at least in this game, he seems to know all of the theory and plays within 2-5 seconds (with one exception, where he thought for around 30-60seconds). Is he a known alt? https://www.chess.com/variants/atomic/game/67432796/52/3

Over the past few weeks, I've been taking a deep dive into Nf3 e3, and as I keep researching, the more I find how relatively "easy" it is to win by force as white by simply knowing a few lines from the opening. What I hope to bring to the post is a thought experiment. If there existed such a player that was able to win 100% of his games in Atomic as white by exclusively playing Nf3 e3, while still maintaining excellent knowledge of black, how far would you think their rating would climb or what would public reactions be to the player?
supercoolguy2000 Jun 25, 2024
Ok so I wanted to know what most people's favorite opening is (as white AND black at the same time) React with a like on your favorite opening (keep in mind this is as both black and white)

survey again what do you think blacks best option is when it comes to fighting back

Hi guys, i have 1 question. A few minutes ago, i was playing atomic with 1580 rating player (I was lost against with he two time). In the game, he did some..good moves? I think : he is a good player but low rating or I made blunders? (Because I often made blunders today). So I checked his game archives. And I found that he lost against low rating players (1400-1600) but he won against high rating players (1700+). He plays very well against players with higher ratings, but he is different when playing with lower ratings. And strangely, he has resigned several times when he wants to win. So what do you think with this player? Did he cheat or was it just a coincidence? You can check my game against him www.chess.com/variants/atomic/game/66479355

If I already know that I'm going to lose, should I resign or keep playing until the my king explode/checkmate? Is the rating reductions different or same?

I've played many atomic, but my rating still 1950. I want to increase my rating, so I need some tips from you. Your tips will help me (maybe other players too) to get a higher rating.

Hey all: I've recently become a frequent victim of 1. Nf3 2. e3, and that brought me to consider how one might consider balancing atomic. Below are some ideas I had (some of which are tested, others not) to hopefully make the two sides a little more equal. Torpedo Sideways Atomic - To be honest, this one was probably the main one that was tried out by my friend group: it's surprisingly fun and I don't believe white has an easy win (I couldn't port this variant to fairy stockfish sadly, so I don't know if an evaluation is even possible). The main idea for balancing is that with the ability to push pawns fast, black gets more counterplay as well as the possibility of a better defense. 960 Atomic - The main idea for balancing is the removal of (most) opening knowledge. However, it also comes down heavily to RNG. Simul 2 Games of Atomic; first to checkmate/timeout wins - The main idea for balancing is that it allows each player to be both white and black. Also, it allows for goofy stalling strategies, similar to that of bughouse. However, it's a bit janky with the current thing of chess.com variants: it's hard to start at the same time, and it can be hard to tell who won first.  Speaking of which, if any variant's developers are here, adding a built-in simultaneous bughouse would be pretty fun: the current methods of using alternate accounts are really weird and could lead to rating manipulation. Possible to Implement: Ensure that for each game with the same player, they will always switch sides. This one is probably the most likely to be implemented: at least from what I hear, people get really mad if you win as white, and then accept the other player's request in the lobby to prevent playing black. It's probably better to just ensure that the sides ALWAYS alternate between games of two players. That or implement some sort of Perfect Sharing Algorithm just to make sure it's fair between two random players. Also, unrelated: my parents wanted me to change my name to "eagle_bozo," since they disliked the previous one; sorry EagleOnHigh.
this post is for anyone 2100+ just so that it makes more sense how do you think you (during your first 5-10 atomic games) would react if you clicked on your account and saw the stats that you have now (this could be chess.com or lichess) OR (this is another option) how would you (during your first atomic games) react if you somehow BROKE TIME AND SPACE AND LSIDFGBLHSGBLFHSLFHLSFDVBH and got paired against yourself now if youre feeling really motivated to do this you can post an imaginary conversation between you for option 2 lol

are there any other moves becides 1d5 agenist 1d4 that does not lose?

I've been hearing a lot about overpowered openings and how they can be disrespectful to opponents (mainly from my friend)—specifically, Nf3 and e3, or Two Knights. At a high level, (at least from what I've heard), they essentially become instant-win/draw openings, hence why others tend to play a bit more obscure openings since I plan to maybe push up to 2200 by the end of the summer, what are your opinions for overpowered openings or good openings to learn? Also, I just hit 2100 blitz, with 2000 rapid coming soon hopefully! (I forgot if it's the first time for me being 2100 or not; whoops)

I usually use 1. Nf3, f6 2. Nd4 or 1. Nh3. What is your best opening in atomic?

So, it's generally accepted the 1.Nf3 is the best opening move for white and 1. ...f6 is the best response. But, obviously in such an unexplored game, there are bound to be those that attempt something different. I've seen 1.e3 played, with the idea to throw off black by playing 2. Qf3 and putting black on the defensive as early as possible. I think after 1.e3 the best response might be 1. ...d5 with the intent of playing 3. ...Bg4 threatening something like Be2. Anyone want to share in these thoughts?
