Here’s a fun little trick (tactic?) I just learned in a blitz game… by placing your rook on the second row below the king in the end game, it prevents your opponent from using his king in an effective way. If done early enough, and without your opponent realizing before he can break free his king, a well placed rook can allow your king to completely clean up shop before moving in for the mate It may seem simple in theory, but learning / realizing / implementing such ideas can really help boost your game at a beginner / intermediate level! what’s the take away? Remember your rooks can be used to block paths, not just attack!

Who said four knights isn't cheese? So many little traps and tricks in it, it ought to be considered swiss. also chess.com's new accuracy system is racist and fascist
I had this position in a game earlier today as black. The material imbalance is white is up two exchanges, but black has an active Bishop pair and is up two pawns and . The engine on lichess.org gives seems to think the positions evaluation is about +0.5 so black has good compensation despite being down material. So who would you guys rather be?
Who else loves to play the Queen's Gambit here? It seems like the ultimate setup for white, if played confidently. Yet, I don't play it as much as I should, which perhaps leaves much to be desired in my own game play, yet when I do it always seems fresh enough to deliver a satisfying result. Even with the Queen's Gambit declined - which is best for black, as accepting the Queen's Gambit simply concedes the center to white - there's still plenty of tricks up the sleeve of white, as you can see from the game above. Also, I've never heard of the SEmi-Tarrasch Defense but it's quite interesting yet remarkably bad for black, it appears.
OK so basically if you want one of the best openings for sub 2000 then learn the Kings gambit. Some reasons: •You will sometimes win the pawn back with a massive center •You will get a dominant center • You will get a massive attack on your opponents King. • The game is really fun for you . • DONT PLAY IF YOU LIKE STUFF LIKE THE LONDON. • You will have high Win rate. • You will get it on the board a lot. I will not Post theory here so look it up on Google (or Firefox or Safari IDK) and YouTube and do yourself a favour and start playing it. Dream position:

Good time of the day everyone. As a French player, I recently had a question: can 1...e6 still be played against 1. d4? And turns out: it has a LOT of transpositions. Most honorable mentions are: French, QGD, Dutch, Bogo-, Nimso- and Queen's Indian. Maybe Benoni, but I'm not sure. This is also first time trying Dutch. Daily game, rematch. Hope you enjoy. Edit 1: I made a typo in annotations. "b6-Bb7-Na6"*. Obviously not Nh6

I learned this line from Levy's Vienna gambit video. First time I've pulled it off perfectly. I timestamped the link. Not sure but if it doesn't the line starts at 14:30. I see this position quite often but doesn't always go this good.

Make sure to look for similar themes if your opponent moves the F pawn early in the opening.Haven't had one of these in a while.

When I played Be7 He should have seen Bd8 coming. He played b4 anyway and I trapped his queen but he put up an amazing fight and I managed not to make any blunders and only 1 innacuracy. I can't really analyze this as it was a 10 minute Rapid.I was just trying to find solid moves and not make any blunders and focusing on keeping the time advantage since I had his queen. When he got down to 20 seconds and moved his Knight from the defense h3 that was lights out but man he fought hard after he lost his queen in this one. Pretty impressive I thought.

If you are a Sveshnikov player, you must know how to play sidelines to the overwhelming main line, which is 6. Ndb5: The 2nd most popular continuation is 6. Nxc6 Exchange Variation; It is also a slight deviation, with a variety of idea from both sides. It and 6. Ndb5 are the only 2 "good" lines for white (Eval-wise). There are 4 other moves that are less popular, which are Nb3, Ne2, Nf5, and Nf3. You must learn how to play against these moves, which are played much more at the beginner to intermediate, and some times even advanced levels, so it is essential you know what to do against these moves. This post will be about 6. Nb3. Will post the other 3 variations later; too lazy to complete it all today. 6. Nb3 This move is intended to move the knight without allowing the a6-b5 advance to gain tempos and misplace the white knight to a3. However, it does come with its drawbacks, which is that it doesn't fight for the central squares, and it is a relatively passive move. This allows black to gain a central initiative and equalize relatively easily: Hope you found that helpful; Will continue from this on the next post!

OK so I basically don't want this club to die that's why I'm doing this. The Evans Gambit: Black's best continuation is to take the pawn. White plays C3 and black will play BA5. White should play D4, black should take, white castles, with general ideas of QB3, BA3 and a centre and kingside attack. Black should castle early, and defend like a madman, and try to win an endgame up a pawn. Basically. Generic moves IDK or care if they are blunders. #reviveb&m

Dear Chess Friends! Sicilian Defense is the most popular defense in chess. But what is the most popular variation in this defense? I play Kan & Paulsen Variations, but they are quite rare. Scheveningen was popular 20-30 years ago. Dragon and Accelerated Dragon are quite popular. Sveshnikov? Maybe, but not as popular as Najdorf Variation. If you play 1.e4 and 2.Nf3 against Sicilian, I’m sure you had to play against Najdorf. Moreover, Najdorf is also considered as the most competitive Sicilian Variation, as here chess players can play for 3 results no matter which color they play for. There are tons of different lines that White or Black may choose, but the pawn structure defines Najdorf Variation. Najdorf is either one of these two pawn structures. . The pawn structure defines the plan, White tries to attack the d6-pawn or to create a passed pawn on the d-file, while Black is mainly looking for a kingside attack usually with f7-f5. Since Najdorf Variation is played all over the world by chess players of all levels I decided to conduct a webinar devoted to it. I can’t explain all the theory, it would be too long for the webinar, but at least I will explain typical plans for both sides: White & Black. Therefore, I’m glad to invite you to my next 125th webinar “Typical Plans in Najdorf Sicilian”, where you will learn what actions White and Black should take to play for a win. The webinar starts on Sunday (29th of May) at 10 a.m. (EDT), 2 p.m. (GMT), 5 p.m. (Moscow time). This webinar is free. Hey Chess Players! It’s time to play chess! Not everyone wants to learn to chess, but everyone wants to play it! So, let’s practice and play a few games to implement the ideas you learned! This week instead of our regular webinar I decided to conduct a Blitz Simul! I’m glad to announce our New Simultaneous Exhibition format where you can play against me! And, of course, you will also get feedback about your moves and mistakes. We keep our blitz game format. I don’t want to run many games simultaneously this time; I’m going to play a short blitz game with everyone in turn (3’+2” or 5’+3”)! Ready to demonstrate your chess skills and play against a FIDE Master? Come and join our Blitz Simul this Sunday! You will for sure get some helpful experience. How does this new format work? You can attend this webinar as a player or just a spectator. You can choose the time control (3’+2” or 5’+3”). When I start the stream, just log into your chess.com account and send me a challenge (unrated). Don’t forget to send a friend request first. My nickname on chess.com is Gertsog. The Siimul starts on Sunday (22nd of May) at 10 a.m. (EDT), 2 p.m. (GMT), 5 p.m. (Moscow time). No fees. I was watching Vishy vs Levon Aronian this morning and what Vishy did to him was so wild and impressive that I had to try analyzing it. Please let me know if I missed anything or incorrectly analyzed something.

Happy April Fools Day! April 1, 2025: “The ability to play chess is the sign of a gentlemen. The ability to play chess well is a sign of a wasted life.” -Paul Morphy, GM. (Do you think he stole this quote from his dad who shamed him into quitting chess?)
