I used to play on freechess.org - At the time it was Channel 24 - and it really was useful for finding active partners The forum approach doesn't lend itself to bughouse communication

Hey! I have a bughouse game viewer and annotator website (you can replay games, add comments and variations, but mostly just for viewing past games because it never really worked on chess.com). It is more or less working now (chess.com doesn't provide the necessary information about the partner game, so there are games where it can't find the partner board, and there are games where it shows nonsense for partner board). Anyway, here it is https://bmacho.github.io/bughouse-viewer/view.html

This happens way too often. I'll be in a Bug tourney, and a new game starts. My partner tells me that the game has begun, and I can't see it! I reload the tab, but it's still showing me some other game, with other players. Eventually the game might come up, but too often the game is lost "by abandonment." Or you lose so much time that it hobbles your team for the game. This is clearly a bug. (It happened to my partner today, and I've seen it happen to other players.) What causes it? What can a player do to avoid it or to deal with it? (Never saw this with FICS......)

Normally I hate getting swindled, but this one was pretty funny, so I thought I'd share it. After 11 moves, we reached this position: I now played 11 . . @e4, winning a knight. My opponent responded 12.N@d2 and there followed 12 . . exf3 13.Nxf3 @e4. My opponent responded N@d2 again and I innocently played exf3, winning another knight: My opponent responded Nxf3 and then claimed a draw by threefold repetition! Yes, Virginia, you can claim a draw in bughouse when the same position occurs three times, even if you have lost two pieces in the meantime. Of course that's totally in accordance with the offical rules of the game, but still . . . arrrrrrgh.

My latest games don't show up among my games. Not on my profile https://www.chess.com/member/valvaran not in my archive https://www.chess.com/games/archive/valvaran (also this two got desynchronized somehow), not even in the public API https://api.chess.com/pub/player/valvaran/games/2023/03 . It keeps updating my ELO, but doesn't show me my most recent games.
Hello friends! 😉 This is my new blog about the rapper Post Malone! It took me many hours to make this article so feel free to check it out! 👍 https://www.chess.com/blog/RAPHAEL1127/why-is-post-malone-so-popular

(I hate the "Issues" euphemism.)Does it seem as though problems with the server (timestamp issues, lags in pairings…tournaments stopping in midstream) are much more prevalent in Bughouse than in other variants and (gagme) chess?

The bug of not being able to see partner's board is NOT fixed. Although it is fixed in a lot of cases, it interacts with other interface problems to come up occasionally. Sometimes in the middle of a game another game will start and be immediately aborted on move 1. After that it is impossible to see your partner's board or the pieces you and your opponent have to drop until you hit reload. Because this comes up in the middle of the game, often you don't realize it happened. I have lost many -15 games because I didn't realize I had pieces to drop or my opponent had pieces to drop or pieces hurt my partner even though I was closely monitoring the boards. It's pretty annoying to lose games due to problems in the interface. Unrelated: Additionally, there is now a bug where if your opponent resigns on move 1, you receive no notification whatsoever that the game has ended and no dialog box to start another game. Around 25% of games for high rated players are your opponents resigning on move 1, so this comes up A LOT.
When I first put out a challenge I make sure to specify a rating range of +200 to -200, or sometimes +200 to -400. However I frequently wind up playing people rated five or six hundred points lower. Winning is fun, of course, but this kind of winning gets old. Is there any way to tell the site that hey, I really mean it?

So we have this position: Black to move, in a Crazyhouse position.I played …B@h5???? Absolutely.Sure, it's mate. Butt I had P@h5#.Mate with the Pawn! Because Style Points.I only had 4.1 seconds remaining, so maybe that's an excuse. See, here are the Rules: If you can mate with Q or R, mate with the R.If you can mate with Q or B (or N or P), mate with the lesser piece.Always.Or you don't earn the essential Style Points.Mate with N beats mate with B or R, because knights are awesome.Mate with P beats any piece. I mean, come on. Exception: A slower mate does not earn Style Points. It's either clueless or obnoxious.Or both. Also: mating with a piece on the board beats dropping with mate. Because the most efficient mate is the best mate. To summarize: P > N > (R or B) > Q.Drop # < simple move #. That is all.

So, I've played Bug on mobile for years. Had a break recently. Now that Live has been replaced, the opponent's board is only partially visible. Have tried different browsers and switching between desktop and mobile view, however there's no change. Have any other mobile users managed to find a workaround? Thanks.

I can't figure out how to Partner someone in a tourney in the new Play interface. I mean, as the tournament begins, I'm assigned a Pard whose rating is similar to mine; but maybe I want to choose a known 1500 player, rather than an 1800 who is new and might play like an 1100.However one can do it, the Play interface doesn't make it easy.If they don't fix this (and the Chat-Mute debacle), players are gonna vote with their mouseclicks and find somewhere else to play. This is intolerable.Maybe we'll all go back to FICS!?

With the new "abuse" detection system, rapid communication will lead to warnings and mutes, which prevent us from saying things like "Pawn mates (Pawn + #)" or "Rook or Knight good". Tell your partner two things in a row once, you get a warning. Tell them two things in a row twice, you get muted for an hour, preventing you from relaying crucial information and putting you at a severe disadvantage. Until they fix this, I recommend a couple courses of action: 1. If you know your partner prior to the game, set up voice chat to avoid in-game chat. 2. If you get a warning about "community guidelines", log off for an hour so you don't get muted mid-game. 3. Submit support tickets each time you get muted until they fix this, as it pretty much breaks bughouse until they resolve it. If they don't hear about it often enough, site admins and programmers will dismiss or ignore it, like they have the crazyhouse threefold repetition bug that has been in place for well over a year..

So, I'm in a Bug Swiss jest now…and my partner and I are rated considerably stronger than the opponents. I have attacking chances. B on c4, f7 relatively open…what's not to love?I grab a B to drop on b3, batterying on f7…and…Nothing doing! The interface won't let me drop a piece! I get the red-circle-with-a-slash icon, telling me I can do nothing with that piece. All these pieces and pawns piling up, and I can't use any of them. I'm playing, like, down 5 pieces. We lose.Another game. Maybe that just happened once?Nope. Again, all these pieces that I couldn't use. So we lost again. I left the tourney.Really strange. (I reported it to chesscom.) Has anyone seen this bug before?

I just had a bughouse partner, and in the chat I sent no knight and he gave my opponent a knight.
Me and my friend will be playing in the Bughouse WC. Neither of us really know what we are doing. Would anyone be willing to give us some advice?

In a bughouse game, everyone moves fast. There is a chance that you blunder a knight/bishop or worse, a queen just to move fast. Would it be worth it to blunder the pieces just for 2-4 seconds on the clock?
