I would like to share with you a new idea that I recently developed in a thread of this forum.
I’ve been thinking about a nations competition really brand new. A competition with the main ingredients for an instant success: different, fast and with a huge participation. What could it be? I have got an idea: a Chess Olympiad. A Chess Olympiad based in the FIDE one, a Swiss tournament of nations with one difference to complete it quick, let’s say in 8 or 9 months: a living clasification. The pairings would be made using a Swiss tournaments app, there are free in the web. The first round is running during the first month and in the last day of this month the second round is arranged according to the clasification to date and so on. The not decided matchs will continue and results can change during time, of course. But at the end of every month the clasification to date would be taken in account to perform the pairings for the next round. This would be a total of about 8 or 9 matchs for each team during the same amount of months, a competition fast and affordable in terms of time length and games for the players. It would be neccesary to fix the number of minimum players for match, let’s say 50, 40, 30..., the lesser value, the more teams could take part in this Olympiad competition. What do you think?
