Simple: 10 x 8 board, with a prince next to the king, and a princess next to the queen. If the king or queen is captured/checkmated, the prince or princess becomes the king or queen. The prince moves like the king but doesn’t have any check-rules, i.e. royalty. The princess moves like a queen with a limited range of two squares up, down, sideways, or diagonal. Also, when a prince/princess stays on the a or j ranks for two moves, it loses royalty and becomes a commoner, moving like a king but can’t promote to a king or queen if they get checkmated or captured. One more thing: Pawns can promote to a knight, bishop, rook, queen, prince, princess, or king. When pawns promote to a king then the opposing player has to checkmate both. If there is a possible move, when the king gets checkmated and there is no prince, the pawn can promote to a king the next move IF that square is not attacked Do you like it?
Hello! Please use this thread to brainstorm ideas for new variants, you have all been coming up with many great new variants and I want you to give more ideas. It isn't like we will ever have these on chess.com, but we can always play them in forums.
Board: Main Rules: The game is played on a 10 x 10 board, with additional files for the new Marshal (Knight/Rook) and Cardinal (Knight/Bishop), which are both placed on the king side. Because of the larger board size, most of the starting pieces are moved up one rank, with the exception of the rooks which remain in the last ranks. In addition to the pieces and setup, there are three other significant differences: Pawns can promote when reaching the eighth or ninth rank. Promotion must happen upon reaching the 10th rank. If not possible (see next point), then the pawn can’t move. Pawns can only promote to pieces of the same color that have been lost. There is no castling. Special Piece 1: The Marshal The marshal is a piece that can move like a rook and knight combined. When writing the move use the letter M. e.g. 1. Mg4 or 1. Md1 Above are some examples of how the marshal looks. Special Piece 2: Cardinal The cardinal is a piece that can move like a bishop and knight combined. When writing the move use the letter C. e.g. 1. Cf4 or 1. Ch1 Above are some examples of how the cardinal looks. Strategy: Relatively little is known about many of the variants here. Creativity and attention to detail are always important. And so the following advice is tentative. Try not to make "routine" developing moves. Sometimes it is worth spending more time to reposition fewer pieces optimally, rather than to develop many pieces suboptimally in less time. Even the variants which appear to resemble chess cannot be played with routine chess moves for very long. Whoever answers the below tactic correctly first will be the first contestant to play with me. Explanation required for points. Good Luck!!! Should black trade the queen for the marshal?
So this new variant will be called Acceleration chess. Basically, it's normal chess but you can make 2 moves in 1 turn if you want to. You can use it 3 times in one game and here are some rules to make the acceleration skill not too op. Rule 1: You can't move one piece twice during the acceleration skill Ex: When you play e4 and Bc4, you can't accelerate and go Qf3 or Qh5 and then go Qxf7 mate as it is moving the queen twice during the acceleration skill. (You can, however, move the queen on your second turn and in your 3rd turn, accelerate and go Bc4 and then Qxf7 mate as it is moving the Bishop and the Queen.) Rule 2: You have to get out of check immediately and you can't be in check during the acceleration skill Ex: When your opponent checks you, you can use your acceleration skill but you have to get out of check during the first move. Another ex: You can't move an absolutely pinned piece unless you unpin it in the first acceleration move. You can move it in the second acceleration move if you get unpinned during your first acceleration move. Rule 3: You can check during your first acceleration, but, however, you cannot check again after the first acceleration as double check will be too op lol Rule 4: Acceleration has a cooldown of 3 turns before you can use it again. How does it sound? Is it good? You can criticize me in the comments and suggest what to fix to make it more fun.

This Variant will be used as our Variant Championships tournament here in the R2GM OVC. To Find the rules to this variant pleas click here: https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/r2gm-variants-insert-pieces-here Now, for strategies: I have 3 Tips here that I have detailed out, you can take it from there and create your own ideas. If you are willing to you can share some tips as well, that is if you are OK with losing your advantage of knowing ONE: Where do I place my King? I didn't study this variant too much, but after a little test I discovered that I am pretty sure you should place your king behind your pawns where your other pieces belong. Placing your king on the other side of your opponents pawns is not a good idea. Placing the king on the 8th rank as white offers you several pawns to take right away, but there is a slight problem; After black places their king they can protect everything And now white can do nothing, no matter what it is Mate in 1. This works the same way for black. So, we must conclude NOT to place your king in the opponent's back rank if you are white, but what about black? White would have already placed their king so they can't protect their pawns and thus you are still safe. It is now White's turn again. If they decide to place a rook then Black will lose Black will lose the game now because they just got checked and no matter what pawn Black takes it will then be checked by white's queen The moves that bring us here are: Kxg2, Q@g1+, Kh3, Qg3# So, what can we conclude will happen if you place your king in an unwise position? PLEASE DO NOT PUT YOUR KING IN THE OPPONENT'S BACK RANK OR ELSE YOU WILL LOSE With all of this said I would have to say the safest place for your king to be placed on move one has to be in your first rank with everything else. Putting your king in Rank 3,4,5 or 6 will probably result in a very bad situation for you. TWO: What do I do next? Now that we have established that we should put our king in our back rank we need to think of what move 2 should be. I have looked into this a little and found out that White can have a large advantage if they play the correct way. Look at the below diagrams as I go through the moves that White can play to receive an advantage White play Q@h3 which attacks the pawn on h7 as well as threatens to take the diagonal Qc8#. What can Black do about this? Well, for one they player d5 after white played d4, this was a blunder. So, what move should black play? just about anything they do will cause a queen to come rampaging through.Well, I will be leaving this for you to find out, if you have someone to play OTB with, please do it will help a lot. I have a few ideas on how you can move your pawns just right to save most of them, but as black you will have the disadvantage. THREE: A good Strategy For Black Black has precisely three moves before White's Queen will possibly come through. This is plenty of time to setup your pieces and protect yourself White can get there faster, though, which means black has to hurry. GOOD LUCK! PLEASE SHARE SOME OF YOUR OWN IDEAS THANKS!
The position starts like this: The rules are same as chess... but the catch is... if you check a opponent king.... it gets captured! First one to capture all kings win! Black goes first. If stalemate occurs… the person who GAVE stalemate loses and the one who had BEEN stalemated wins!
starting position: if you're going to move a knight, u have to capture a piece with it. first one to capture all opponents' knights wins
How to play: Each team gets only a line of pawns to start with White goes first by Placing their King ANYWHERE on the board After black has done the same White may either move a pawn, or put a piece on (One of the 7 remaining normal pieces. In one of the spaces behind a pawn) Black does the same When putting pieces out both sides needs to put them out behind a pawn, so if you advance a pawn before placing your queen you may place your queen farther towards the enemies line. You may, however place the king (Move 1) on any square (excluding the 2nd and 7th rank due to pawns already occupying)Starting position: Things to remember: Move one is ALWAYS the move where your king is placedOn your turn you can ONLY place a piece behind a pawn (Not alongside, it just needs to be in the rank behind it - or further back)You can only place the amount of pieces you get in a standard chess game (2 Rooks, 2 Bishops, 2 Knights, 1 Queen and 1 King)Position after move 2: You can put the king anywhere, but not other pieces, they need to be in any rank behind one that a pawn is occupying.
Hello! We are planning on having a correspondence style tournament in this club with a variant we developed. If you have ideas for the variant and would like to share please post a comment. If you have an idea for a complete variant already post it here: https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/lets-make-variants This forum is to develop the one unique variant that will be the competition for the first Variant Competition.

In this variant we are mixing together: 3 check and king of the hill. There are now 3 ways to win: Checkmate, 3 checks given to the opponent and Getting your king to one of the four center squares of the board (e4, e5, d4, d5) I'll go first:
This variant is called counter check. So basically the second check wins. The players have to react to the second check, or if they don't you can capture their king. If this was a real game white would be totally winning because they'd be up a bishop. But in the new variant i created we can play Bxf2 from black side. The players have to react to the second check. I made this variant so that people have a chance in middle games where one side has a huge attack, but the other side loses by one tempo or something (hope you get what i mean)
