Very impressive list! Step two...

Bugniduck

That's it, sorry for breaking it into three posts but I got scripting errors when trying to paste them all at once. These do not represent all the chess videos on the site.  The impetus for making this draft sequence was the lack of a topical level index.  I've been watching the video of the day but needed a structured way to catch up and work through what's already on the site.

trysts

Oh, I meant, "Step two..." like, now you have to watch all those videos! For me, it is easy to make lists of what I'm going to do, but strangely difficult to actually do these thingsLaughing

Bugniduck
Yep. I needed a map though.
theoreticalboy

Wow, this must be the lamest idea for a video watching marathon ever Tongue out

chessroboto

Would be interesting to see which ones the OP has watched so far and how his standing in playing chess online improves. Undecided

Maybe something like a progress chart over time since the videos are already laid out as a single lane (linear) road map. This could be another Polgar experiment in a chess.com environment! Cool

Bugniduck
Oh it's not a marathon. It's nothing like joining you and your mom on the couch each night for 60 consecutive days to watch that boxed set of Twin Peaks she bought you. Just trying to find a path through the chess videos since it isn't geared progressively like mentor or tactics.
chessroboto

Have you started on the pawn videos yet?

Bugniduck
Yes, I am through the first seven. Trying to watch two a day and spend a couple of 30 minute blocks of time doing tactics. I play a few over the board games a day, but those are pretty casual and not long. I could use some advice on the otb play... I need to improve my calculation and discipline my impatience and desire to move intuitively.
Bugniduck
I am through the first 11 videos, here is what I've observed: 1. My OTB play has improved significantly. I am positionally better out of the opening and into the middle game. 2. I need to play less and practice tactics more. I've played something like 200 online games elsewhere since starting my trek throughh the videos. 3. My 15 minute ganes ares solid online. Ive been using some trees from Nakamura 1. G3 ganes and win several in a row. 3. The 3 and 5 minute games are absolutely terrible for me, I just don't move at that speed right now, not without hanging pieces or letting structure collapse. 3.
ilmago

This is a huge selection, and there are many more additional video lectures available which are not mentioned in this list. So some may wish to concentrate on a smaller subset and look for recommendations or suggestions on what to choose as such a subset.

For this, I would warmly recommend the B lectures (David on development) and the G lectures (Danny on rook endgames). Especially for those who do not plan to work their way through the entire list shown here, working through B and G will be a very good thing to concentrate on!

In addition, I especially recommend all lectures by GM Dejan Bojkov, I think they should really be added to a "must view" list here Smile

chessroboto

Wow. Great progress. Looks like someone is already getting their money's worth for paying the Diamond premium membership. Wink

Bugniduck
Ok, I am now through the first 17 pawn videos (section A). I switched gears today and watched the first 4 queens gambit videos (section I) and will watt h the next 2 queen gambit videos tonight, then finish out pawns this week. Switching to the queen gambit videos helped me apply the pawn video stuff during some games today and brought the material together for me. Parts of a book i read also make a lot more sense to me now (particularly running into Meran and reversed Meran setups). Where will my game be at the end of all this? Who knows...
orangehonda

Wow, I dunno but I'm sure you're making improvement :)  Take notes and review them afterwards or something, that's a lot of material to try an absorb so quickly.

chessroboto

There's so much information in these videos. It's almost like a library of good chess books.

Bugniduck
It really is. I made it through all the queen gambit videos today, then went back and started over by entering the variations I'm shankland discussed into fritz with different trees for the ideas. I got through the first two videos this way a second time and entering the trees with comments is helping with the assimilation. Understanding the queens gambit videos is really putting the positional and pattern material from I'm rensch into perspective. Playing through some games on icc went well. ........ This exercise has really put into perspective for me the sheer amount of work it mustve taken for these guys to get where they are in terms of having such easy, off the cuff, recollectable chess knowledge and perspective. I might have to roll my three year plan out to five....
orangehonda

Don't let a few bad games get you down :)

After so much material, it has to soak into your brain.  Chess skill is in 2 parts, the theory and the practice.  You may have learned tons of info on the QGD, but as you're learning to apply it effectively in games this may mean more losses than usual and your rating may go down at first.  Of course the end result is you'll be a better player and the rating eventually follows the progress.
