[Puzzle Road] Escape me if you can! (P20)
Welcome to Puzzle Road!
To win a chess game, you will need to checkmate. To checkmate, you will need to attack your opponent. And to attack your opponent, you will need to correctly develop your pieces. Developing the pieces is probably the most complicated part of the opening and you can always fall in a trap if you put your pieces on the wrong squares.
The most common example is the queen trap: when your opponent’s queen cannot move on a square without being captured! That’s the most common imprisonment of a pieces, but the Knights, Rooks and Bishops can be captured too! In this puzzle, we will see a beautiful Bishop imprisonment, but don’t forget the preparatory moves!
20/ Escape me if you can! (Topics: imprisonment of a piece + preparatory move)
First move: Knight d4 (!!)
Indeed, the White-squares Bishop has only the a4 square and then the b3-square but could take the Knight if we don’t move it! Here, we move it to win a tempo by attacking the white queen. After that, we only need to chase the Bishop and we will exchange him for two of our pawns to get a decisive advantage in the game!
If White plays 2. Qg4, we have 2. ... / a6, 3. Bd7, 3. … / h5, followed by 4. Be6+ and 4. … / Kh7, 5. Qd1, 5. ... / Nxe6!
Following moves: a6 and b5!
These two moves permit us to win the bishop by blocking it. White needs to take a pawn with Bishop/Knight to exchange it for two of our pawns.
Thanks for following,
Have a good day!
