I just played FFA game and on move 12, red tries to team with yellow by checking me and Bl6# is mate, but instead of mating me, yellow takes the queen. So red tried to give yellow checkmate, hoping to checkmate blue and win in 2-player endgame? To me it looks like teaming. I want also to mention that blue did nothing to stop mate, my "friend in the opening" betrayed me. Move 26, red resigns and gives blue free points, red could defend by putting the pawn between the king and queen, and after Qxh3+ and Rk2# it's mate, but blue doesn't have to take pawn to give me +20 points, so why did red res? At the end, i blundered 2-3 times and gave blue free checkmate on yellow and get 2nd place because I couldn't think https://www.chess.com/variants/4-player-chess/game/27949217/144/4

However, in this puzzle, BG do not have a forced win. Instead, the objective is to find a forced sequence of moves that draws the game. In case the position looks weird, I should mention that if this was from a real game (although it isn’t), this can come from Red and Yellow ganging up on Green and taking his pieces (also that Green might have played poorly before this position).

Hi all, Several of us top players have been talking and think it would be a good idea to start an FFA league (Prizes TBD) so that we can organise interesting high level games like we saw before the merger. At the moment we are simply looking to gauge interest from the community before any further action. Any interested player who has a proven track record or lower rated player that shows a willingness to learn and improve at the game please message either myself or @505EXY, preferably with your discord details (please make one if you do not already have one and wish to participate), and we will get in touch. https://discord.gg/XKSa3vepxs Thanks, Jai

Has your Teams rating reached its peak? Are you looking to increase your rating? What I'm about to share with you is very simple, and anyone can do this. Shortly after the merge, my Teams rating plummeted due to several disconnects and losses. Earlier this month I was down to 2121 from 2296, and just got to 2330 for the first time. All you have to do is find a random 1500 that plays like a 2500, and win 26 straight games! If I can do this, you can do it too! Here are some key wins https://www.chess.com/variants/4-player-chess/game/27565167/33/2 https://www.chess.com/variants/4-player-chess/game/27760535/77/4 https://www.chess.com/variants/4-player-chess/game/27771636/48/3 Our last and best game before the streak was broken https://www.chess.com/variants/4-player-chess/game/27791704/80/1

Very abruptly said, 4p chess is dying. There are MUCH LESS games; Antichess/Giveaway became very seldom played, Old Standard games that I try to launch from time to time are not seen nor joined by hardly anyone, high rated games became scarce... I believe that the main problem is about ergonomics, arborescence organisation and presentation. I reckon it was a huge mistake to put 4p into one mixed mess with other chess variants. It should've stayed a separate space. Many players haven't seen that there are different 4p rooms like https://www.chess.com/variants/4p-old-standard https://www.chess.com/variants/4p-giveaway etc. Many didn't understand that with the back arrow you can reach https://www.chess.com/variants and that then different subspaces concern 4p chess (whereas many do not!). Most players do not understand that all 4p games could be visible by them in https://www.chess.com/variants/lobby, and they didn't realise that they should configure themselves this space in order to be able to see for instance Old Standard and Giveaway (Antichess) games. As logical and inevitable consequence, there are MUCH LESS games now. Before the merge to get a 2400-2500 FFA was not a big deal, now sometimes you have to wait for 1 hour and more (!). I think those who created the new site structure overestimated the ability of users and underestimated their laziness. I am sure that stats prove that there are much less games, especially as for some formats and levels. I believe that should be urgently re-thought about. With a separate 4p chess space, where all formats and variants OF 4P CHESS are included, with no confusion and no other formats (2p, 960, fog of war, whatever...). And with a unique lobby put SEPARATELY from sub-rooms, where people like previously see all open games by default (but can REMOVE then the games they are not interested in, either by format or timing or rating level).

Everything that can be said on this topic has been said. So I'm just going to start a list of examples of games where solo-for-all fails the 3-player stage because a player throws the game. Feel free to add games.https://www.chess.com/variants/4-player-chess/game/27718580

With 3 seconds left on the clock, do you play e4##, or Rg5# mating yellow, stalemating blue, and losing the game? https://www.chess.com/variants/4-player-chess/game/27757786/282/1

Feel free to agree or disagree with me, but please keep your responses as unhateful as possible. This post is meant for discussion and not hating on other people or the game. This is probably the 100th topic related to the merge and all the changes made, but what can we do? To put it in a simple way: we don't need old standard or the old rating system, but something that will bring back the players who used to love this game and then left. I mean, when's the last time you saw @Radon playing a rated rapid FFA game? Or an actual 2000+ teams game where none of the players are overrated by more than 300 points (and let me assure you, some of the 2300s now play like 2000s). We don't even need to revert if it's truly unnecessary. We just need one very important change. I truly understand that the admins and developers work very hard with minimal to no pay at all (volunteers), but for the life of me I can't figure out why we needed all the changes and how this relates to the former topic. This is what I, and I guess many others expect of admins. We want people who are willing to volunteer their time and effort to give the people what they want. I mean, that's simple, right? If you are volunteering somewhere, you don't just change the rules of how everything works there? I can totally get it if it's chess.com that's pushing you to make the decision, but if it's not, then please consider this post carefully. The definition of volunteering is doing work for free, and it's good work done for the better of the community, but it almost never involves being able to change things however you'd like. I think this is the problem: if we had more admins who had the time and the motivation to listen to people's ideas and make the game better rather than adding a completely new starting position and changing the rating system when almost no one asked for them, 4pc would be much more popular. So hopefully, this goes through, because I seriously don't know what else to say at this point. The only reason I still play 4pc and am still relatively active in the community (like many others, I would assume) is because of all the friends I've made here, and all the people that I can talk to. But as the numbers continue to decrease, I don't think I'll be here much longer either.

I consider myself high rated. I think a lot of people on forum, whether they're ranging from the 2000s to the 2500s or even the 3000+ area will label themself as such. There are some players, who "play for fun"; this is a very broad spectrum. But I will be focusing on one part of it, that specifically stands out to me. When I see 3 players ganging up on me in a game and losing at the cost of their own rating, dignity, and public image, it's very insulting to see them use the excuse "we play for fun", and "rating doesn't matter". I also play for fun. I don't think any single player on 4PC plays for money unless they are a streamer. I have fun when I gain rating or when I am at least able to have a balanced match, and get to lose because of my own mistakes, and grow from them. Not when I am tanked 50 points in a single game because of a beat em up that can't be punished because it wasn't prearranged. It's the problem of looking from both sides; one side probably wants to ruin another person's day, the other wants to win and play fairly. People, if you want to troll others, go on a shooter game, and target one person for the entire match. Don't intentionally ruin another human being’s day for your own pleasure.
