Top 5 Coolest Checkmates

Have you ever seen a checkmate so nice it made you jump up from the chess board say WOW.

Here are may top 5 coolest checkmates, if you get any of these in a game take a picture and send it to all your friends.

5. The Pawn Mate

Perhaps the most thrilling way to end a long king hunt it to just slide up your C pawn up 1 square, look your opponent in the eyes, and tell them you have just mated them with a pawn.

4. King Mate

Ever played someone who won't resigned even if they are dead lost? Well, the king mate is the ultimate power move. First you take all their pieces, promote a couple pawns to queens (cause why not), and deliver the killer blow just sliding you king away. The pure satisfaction you will get from writing Kd7# on your score sheet will make that game a highlight of your chess career.

3. Promoted to a Knight Mate!

This mate has the best of both worlds. Smothered mate, check. Promoting to a knight, check. Just imagine the look on your opponent's face when you reach across the board with a knight, not a queen, ready to deliver mate. Bonus points if your position is losing if you promote to a queen!

2. Castles!

You will probably only be able to do this early in the game but if you get the chance, it is a must try. This might be the best way to show your opponent who is boss. The only question is which one, O-O-O# or O-O#, looks cooler on the scoresheet.

1. En Passant Mate!

The coolest move in chess just got cooler. Just when your opponent thinks they have escaped the danger, you remind them of that one move they forgot about when they learned the rules. This mate is the ultimate power move and all the kids at the chess club will think you are cool when you show them it.
