Bread and Butter: Each Candidate's best opening.

Hello chess fans, today we will talk about each candidates favorites opening, or the one the use the most. In the candidates there is some players sticking to their strengths and some players playing obscure lines that no one has seen before. Today we will look at the favorite for each candidates when paying s both white and black.

Fabiano Caruana:

White: With white Fabiano often plays the Ruy Lopez.

Black: Fabiano the only Italian in the Candidates plays the Sicilian. Sicily is an island in Italy. The Sicilian is one of the more popular opening for black. To be more specific Caruana plays the Sicilian, Kan.

Ding Liren:

White: With white Liren plays the Queens Gambit Declined which is a very common for a gambit and is usually declined rather than accepted.

Black: Liren usually plays a interesting variation of the Ruy Lopez. He played the Ruy Lopez in round 4 of the Candidates.

Ian Nepomniachtchi:

White: With White he often plays against the Sicilian and plays the Najdorf variation as white.

Black: He also plays the Sicilian as black but with a different variation. He often plays the Sicilian Canal-Sokolsky attack.

Alexander Grischuk:

White: Grischuk faces lots of Sicilian's but also plays this interesting variation and line of the Queens Gambit declined.

Black: As Black Grischuk plays lots of Sicilians but also plays the Kings Indian defense a lot of the time.

Maxime Vachier-Lagrave

White: He also like many other players plays the Ruy Lopez and the "Spanish Game" has been a favorite for many players for years,

Black: MVL plays a the Neo-Grunfeld defense a lot and is one of the top Grunfeld players in the world.

Anish Giri:

White: Giri being a very solid and drawish player, he often pays the solid Catalan closed variation.

Black: Giri plays the Sicilian but with a very solid version that isn't super aggressive.

Wang Hao:

White: Hao plays in a lot of Sicilian and Spanish games but plays a lot of Slav as white. Mostly the Queens Gambit Declined Slav.

Black: Hao also plays the Sicilians and Slav as black but he also plays the French.

Kirill Alekseenko:

White: He plays the Ruy Lopez a lot and sometimes the closed variation.

Black: Alekseenko also plays the Queens Gambit Accepted which is not as often played as the Declined.
