The beginning rounds of the FIDE world cup went pretty much as expected with many of the big names like Magnus and Fabi cruising to victory. Now however, younger players have started to threaten upsets to the games biggest stars. Wesley So has already been upset by 23 year old GM Alexey Sarana and Magnus Carlsen has dropped his first game to 18 year old GM Vincent Keymer. Today I will give you all a look into these stellar games as well as give you some matchups to watch out for.

So vs Sarana: Game 2

They drew the first game against each other and then Sarana got a big upset victory in game two to become the first into the quarterfinals.

Carlsen vs Keymer: Game 1

This win with white was huge for Keymer but today Carlsen bounced back with a win of his own, evening the match. However, Keymer's chances for an upset still remain in tiebreaks.

Young Talent on the rise:

Of the 16 players in Round 4.  7 of them are under 21. This includes Andrey Eispeinko, Nihal Sarin, Gukesh, Arjun, Pragg, Keymer and Sindarov. It is going to be very interesting to see if one of these young players can qualify for the candidates if they keep their stellar play.

God Bless!
