Thanks, Art.
I've looked at the chess openings database here at chess.com once in a while, but honestly, it offers no solid conclusions, so I just stick to standard opening theory when I can.
Look at my chess.com rating. I can't seem to stick to it very often :)

That's a spurious addition to the right!

OK, here's me. I use the analysis board whenever I feel the need. Just makes sense with correspondence chess. If you were playing it the old fashioned way, wouldn't you have a board set up? Would you be playing "touch"?
As far as the rest of it; I have, on occasion looked at the "my games" section at the start of a game to see what happened when I played something in the past. That's about it. I consider it about the same as looking back through your notes on past games. Seems justifiable to me.

Wasn't there a poll on this subject earlier? Why not just check the results of that poll, instead of trying to get votes here?

This tally was the father of that poll.
Given the poll has 950 votes cast, it is now more representative than this tally.
In many ways the son has surpassed the father
An improvement of the human race? :))
And it shows Users - 34%, Non-Users - 44% ,
the rest didn't know outside stuff nor opening databases. (Source: front page)
This tally shows Users - 47%, Non-Users - 53%.

The distinction between User and Non-User is on the basis of these COT guidelines:
NON-USERS "... play "over the board" chess, as if we were playing face to face, and unable to use analysis boards, opening books, or any other external aid to help us, we promised we would use our knowledge and experience only to play the game." ( http://circleoftrust.bravehost.com/ )
USERS use any or all legitimate facilities while playing the game. This EXCLUDES Chess Engines (such as Fritz) and Endgame Tablebases. (chess.com playing rules)
