Event #78 Commanding Voice

Type: Rook carrier

Condition: Can not be started with another rook carrier event. At least 1 king for each player. At least 1 rook for each player.

Only pieces standing within 3 squares from an allied king can move. Castling can still be made as normal.

A king can move on top of an allied rook with its normal movement. The king can also move off an allied rook with its normal movement. Rooks with a king on top of them can not move,

When a king is standing on top of an allied rook, pieces in the same army can move regardless of their distance to the king.

The blue squares indicate the squares that are within 3 squares from the white king. If white has pieces that are not on those squares, then those pieces can not move.

Example 1:

Whites pieces on a2 and a1 are not within 3 squares from whites king and can not move. Blacks pieces on a7 and a8 are not within 3 squares of blacks king and can not move.

Example 2:

Blacks pieces on a7, a8, b7 and c8 are not within 3 squares of blacks king and can not move. Black plays Kf8 (moves his king on top of his rook).

Since blacks king is now on top of his rook, all blacks pieces can now move (All except the rook that the king is standing on). White can not move his pieces on a1, a2 or c6, although he can play 0-0-0.

Example 3:

White is threatening to capture both blacks rook and king in one move. This means black is in check. Black can not move his rook under his king. Black plays Kh8.

Example 4:

Whites rook can not move, so black is not in check. Black plays Kf8.

Example 5:

Black has no legal moves. Game ends in stalemate.
